ASB - Another electric bike seized |
||
|
On Friday evening, one e-bike rider in Stainforth found out that pavements aren't part of the Tour de France route! After being spotted riding at speed on the pavement, officers attending the local community engagement meeting were perfectly placed to step in and seize the bike… The rider will now be dealt with by our Youth Offending Team. A reminder that not all electric bikes are legal for use on UK roads.
Legal e-bikes in the UK can only provide motor assistance up to 15.5mph (25km/h).
Bikes capable of higher-powered speeds may be classed as motor vehicles and require insurance, registration and a valid licence to be ridden legally.
… and just to be clear, legal or not, pavements are for people, not power assisted pit stops!
