South End Canal - Thorne

We have received reports of children jumping in the canal at South End Swing bridge in Thorne.

While it may seem like fun in the warm weather, canals can be extremely dangerous. The water is often much colder than expected, with hidden hazards beneath the surface, strong currents and steep slippery banks that can make it difficult to get out.

We ask parents and carers to speak to their children about the dangers of entering open water.

If you see anyone in difficulty, call 999 immediately and do not enter the water yourself.
